Recreation Supervisor - Youth Enrichment & Camps

Position Summary

This position involves work in planning, coordinating, promoting, directing and evaluating programs, activities and events for the Parks & Recreation Department. The area of emphasis is programs relating to youth such as licensed summer camps, preschool programs, karate, dance and more.

Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities

  • Designs and implements recreation programs, activities and events suited to the needs of participants and potential participants. Consults with individuals and groups that impact the recreation programs, activities and events to determine their interests, needs and desires.
  • Hires, trains, assigns duties, supervises and evaluates part-time and variable employees as well as volunteers involved in a variety of related recreation and maintenance activities.
  • Coordinates and/or teaches a variety of recreational programs and activities for youth as assigned.
  • Assists in the preparation of promotional materials, program brochures, manuals and rules and regulations used by the department.
  • Leads in the planning and execution of city-sponsored special events such as the Art Fair, Great Lenexa BBQ Battle, Spinach Festival, Enchanted Forest and Lenexa Chili Challenge.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports, including daily cash reports, program attendance reports, quarterly class reports and statistical reports from special events.
  • Able to manage budget as well as prepare invoices and code payments correctly.
  • Oversees the summer camp school bus lease and lease location, ensuring daily inspections, compliance with Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) requirements, and assisting with all maintenance tasks.
  • Monitors public activity within parks and recreation facilities and notifies proper authorities in cases of illegal activity, damage to property or facilities in need of repair.
  • Provides excellent customer service and manages registrations and payments.
  • Drives City and/or personal vehicle to perform essential functions of position.

Qualifications

Minimum: Bachelor's degree in recreation, education, or related field. Must have at least 3-4 years of increasingly responsible experience supervising recreation programs, activities, and events. Must have driver's license and KDHE School-Age Program Director certification.

Salary range for this position is $55,661 to $64,526 dependent on qualifications and directly related experience. The City of Lenexa offers a comprehensive benefits package including:
