Parks Facility Specialist - Rec Center

Department: 500001 Rec Center -Admin
Location: Lenexa, KS

The City of Lenexa Parks and Recreation department is currently seeking a motivated individual with a passion for public service to join us as a Parks Facility Specialist with a focus on the Lenexa Rec Center.

Position Summary

This position performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, troubleshooting and repair work focused on the Lenexa Rec Center, including aquatic, mechanical, electrical and building systems. The specialist may lead or guide staff, ensures safe and efficient operation of all Rec Center amenities and maintains compliance with safety and health standards. In the supervisor's absence, this position may serve as acting supervisor.

Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor, perform and schedule preventive and corrective maintenance and repairs for all Rec Center systems, including pools, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting and fitness equipment.
  • Test and adjust pool water chemistry; operate and maintain pumps, filters, chemical feed systems, controllers and related aquatic equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair building issues, including doors, hardware, flooring, walls, ceilings and appliances.
  • Lead, train and direct small teams on assigned projects or tasks.
  • Inspect facilities for safety, cleanliness and operational issues; identify hazards and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain records and logs for maintenance, health, safety and code compliance using work order software and other systems.
  • Operate all facility maintenance equipment and instruct employees in the safe operation of such equipment.
  • Assist with setup, support and cleanup for special events and recreation programs.
  • Respond to emergencies, including after-hours, weekends and holidays, as part of the division’s responsibilities.
  • Maintain inventory of parts, tools and supplies; assist with ordering as directed.
  • Drive City and/or personal vehicle to perform essential functions of position.

Qualifications

Minimum: High school diploma or G.E.D. and 5-6 years facility maintenance experience OR trade school/technical school certification plus 3-4 years of facility maintenance or related field experience. Must have Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO) certification, Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification, and Backflow Tester certification or obtain within two years.

Compensation & Benefits

Starting rate of pay is $29.09 to $33.72 per hour dependent on qualifications and directly related experience. The City of Lenexa offers a comprehensive benefits package including:
