Video and Security Systems Technician I

Location: Lenexa, KS

The City of Lenexa Police Department is looking for a Video and Security Systems Technician. Position Summary

This civilian position works in conjunction with members of the Police IT workgroup relating to the development, maintenance and growth of the City-wide video camera and access control networks. It requires supporting the Video and Security Systems Administrator in the planning, designing, installing, configuring, maintaining and optimizing all video and security systems hardware, software and communication links.

Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains existing systems via updates and enhancements.
  • Troubleshoots unexpected issues with existing systems.
  • Researches and assists with special projects associated with new video security systems.
  • Educates and guides end-users for optimal usage of systems.
  • Maintains high proficiency via training and collaboration.
  • Required to drive a vehicle, including City-owned vehicles to off-site training courses, meetings and/or other City facilities.
  • Drives City and/or personal vehicle to perform essential functions of position.

Additional Examples of Work Performed

  • Aids in the development of business continuity and disaster recovery plans and responds to emergency video network outages in accordance with those plans.
  • Coordinates maintenance schedules and particulars with a variety of systems vendors.
  • Works with end users and department heads to identify and document required network service levels.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Compliance with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent and four years of experience in a related field. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Desired: 60 college credit hours or an Associate degree in a related field.

Environment and Physical Factors

This position requires a wide variety of skills and abilities including mobility to work outdoors and in confined spaces; exposure to some inclement weather and high voltage; ability to lift street cameras, ladders, toolboxes and UPS batteries, etc. up to 50 lbs; the ability to sit for prolonged periods; the ability to use aerial equipment at heights up to 40 feet; and visual acuity and accommodation to review alpha/numeric data.

Rate of pay to $24.04 to $27.87 per hour based on previous experience. The City of Lenexa offers a comprehensive benefits package including:
