Pool Manager - Outdoor

Outdoor swimming pools summer season:

Weekend trainings throughout the month of May

Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.

Public Pool Hours: Noon to 7:30PM seven days a week.

Pool Program Hours:

Ad Astra: 5:30AM – Noon (Monday – Saturday)

Flat Rock Creek: 9:00AM – Noon (Monday – Friday)

Sar-Ko- Par: 6:30AM – Noon (Monday – Saturday)

Pool staff are expected to open and close the pools for programs and daily operational duties. Managers are needed for the entire pool season and hours of operation as noted above.

Position Summary

Outdoor Pool Managers are responsible for all aspects of the City’s swimming pools on a day-to-day basis, including pre-season preparation, daily operation, and closure. The Pool Manager is responsible for the supervision of all subordinate personnel, program supervision, maintenance recognition and communication, cleaning, and record keeping. This position maintains and improves facilities and programs, while creating and maintaining public awareness, resolving staff and patron issues, and balancing financial reports.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Aids in planning, directing and organizing all activities of the aquatic facility. Supervises pool personnel and the daily operation of the pools, providing a quality swimming facility and program for the public, including being readily visible on the deck and in the facility. Assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness and conformance with policies and procedures,
  • Supervises, motivates, trains, and evaluates all staff on applicable skills, equipment and software. Ensures all staff follow proper money handling and sales procedures as defined. Provides, coordinates, and/or conducts in-service trainings and documentation as required and assigned for Head Lifeguards, Lifeguards, Front Desk and Concession staff in skills, policies and procedures, and action plans. Works with employees to identify and resolve problems, assigns projects and programmatic areas of responsibility, reviews and evaluates work methods and procedures. Upon approval from the Aquatics Supervisor, selects personnel and implements discipline procedures.
  • Completes required reports and records including incidents, first aid and rescues, accidents, theft, vandalism, payroll, daily attendance daily logs and training logs accurately and on time. Reconciles daily reports and registers and delivers monies to the designated City staff person or location.
  • Complies with, and promotes, safety and sanitary regulations according to federal, state, county, local and organizational requirements. Makes routine inspections of facilities to determine functionality and safety, including pump room, restrooms, concessions and front desk areas, pool deck, and inside and outside the pool perimeter, and reports unsatisfactory conditions. Maintains pool chemicals and pool filtering equipment in a safe operating range on an hourly basis. Maintains pool cleanliness, ensuring clear, vacuumed, backwashed water, and clean gutters.
  • Observes and aides in communication and enforcement of policies and procedures to staff and the public to promote safety. Resolves sensitive, significant and controversial issues from personnel and patrons, while promoting friendly and courteous attitudes. Displays the knowledge and ability to initiate and perform the Emergency Action Plan, including procedures and skills.
  • Maintains facility/concession inventory as needed, and/or notifying Aquatic Manager of needs in a timely manner.
  • Ensures schedules for aquatic staff daily duties and special events, including rotations, daily cleaning, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Drives city and/or personal vehicle to perform essential functions of position, making daily deposits, and transport supplies and equipment.

Qualifications

Minimum: At least 20 years of age, possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. and have two years of experience as a lifeguard, which must include supervisory experience, at an aquatic’s facility. American Red Cross Lifeguard certification required from a nationally recognized agency. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and have satisfactory credit history.

Desired: Lifeguard Instructor and/or Waterpark Instructor certifications, Water Safety Instructor certification.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Recreational activities, equipment and park maintenance
  • Applicable federal and state laws regulating personnel issues
  • Mathematics
  • Chemical use

Skill in:

  • Organization
  • Performing minor facility and equipment maintenance

Ability to:

  • Perform lifesaving techniques.
  • Establish successful working relationships with others and use good professional judgment, honesty, and integrity in decision making.
  • Plan and coordinate activities, understand and anticipate problems, develop and enforce Department policies and procedures, and to interpret written instructions and manuals.
  • Evaluating and motivating employees, volunteers, and participants.
  • Assess and prioritize aquatic facility maintenance and needs

Rate of pay: Starting hourly rate of pay is $18.75 per hour. City residency not required.

Offers of employment are conditional upon successful completion of pre-employment drug screen and a background check is required if age 18 or older.
